Back to Fall 2022A Passion for Patient Care
Fabiola Puga, MD, is happy to get to work. It has been a long time coming—and for her, it's a dream come true. "I feel grateful to Arbor Health for allowing me to continue living my dream profession the way I imagined I would," she says.
East Lewis County is right where she wants to be, as it places her near her family in Yakima. Although a Guadalajara, Mexico, native, she attended the sixth grade in Yakima, Washington; attended high school in Cambridge, England; went to college in Guadalajara; lived in New York City for a time; and then completed her three-year Family Medicine Residency in Tallahassee, Florida. And finally, in a matter of days, she will be in Morton, right where she wants to be.
"I can't wait to meet the community and start providing my services," Dr. Puga says. "I went into medicine because of my love for science. And my passion to help people led me to Family Medicine. I love all patient populations, but I am particularly keen on women's health, elderly care, prevention of diseases and wound care."
As community members get to know Dr. Puga, they will find her to be a kind, warm person who loves to have fun, loves to laugh and is driven to help other people. "I love every part of my career—getting to know my patients, practicing what I've learned in the last 12 years," she says.
Dr. Puga says she savors the feeling of accomplishment when she gets home from work in the evening and knows she was able to help people, doing what she loves.
"We have been looking so forward to Dr. Puga joining our medical staff," Arbor Health CEO Leianne Everett says. "She is a good fit for our medical system and there is a real need for her services, especially with Dr. Merrell Cooper's recent retirement from the Morton Clinic. We are happy to welcome Dr. Puga to the team. She will be great for our patients and a real asset for our community. In particular, her being bilingual will be wonderful for our Spanish-speaking population in East Lewis County."
This is something that Dr. Puga appreciates as well. She has a particular passion for helping Spanish-speaking patients, as she is aware of the relief patients feel when they can easily communicate with their doctors.
