Description:
This position involves providing comprehensive anesthesia care to a variety of patients in a collaborative, rural healthcare setting. This position is the sole anesthesia provider while on duty, requiring a high degree of autonomy and responsibility.
Minimum qualifications:
- Current Washington State RN license & Current Washington State ARNP license
- Certification and maintenance of recertification, from American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
- Current American Heart Association or equivalent BLS, PALS and ACLS certification or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Primary job responsibilities:
- Provides all manner of anesthesia services for which he/she may be qualified, provided such services and activities are approved by the medical staff. Privileges are specifically granted by the employer and are in accordance with generally accepted anesthesia practices and guidelines and the requirements of the State of Washington.
- Discusses anesthesia procedure with patient prior to surgery and documents this in the medical record.
- Consults with the surgeon regarding the patient’s condition, whenever necessary, as to the type of anesthesia as well as the advisability of administering an anesthetic when such is questionable.
- Orders preoperative medication appropriate to planned anesthetic.
- Maintains adequate stock of anesthesia supplies and consults with Anesthesia Manager.
- Prepare equipment, medication, and all provisions necessary for the administration of a safe and adequate anesthetic for all surgical procedures.
- Observes anesthetized patient for adverse reactions and notifies physician of patient’s condition; initiates remedial measures, as necessary.
- Continually monitors patient during administration of anesthesia and notes findings in anesthesia record, records patient’s condition at the end of procedure.
- Assists in transferring patient to recovery room.
- Remains in house during the recovery room period and maintains responsibility for the patient until the patient is released to regular nursing floor care.
- Is responsible for carrying a cell phone and being available for emergency situations. When in an area not reachable by the phone, he/she will leave address and telephone number with the charge nurse.
- Is available for back up IV starts when staff nurses are unable to get IV started.
- Is supportive of and executes all hospital policies and procedures, including those regarding patient safety.
- Is responsible for execution of an effective charging system for anesthesia.
- Is responsible for reporting and recording defective, deficient or unsafe hospital anesthesia equipment to the Maintenance Supervisor in the form of a work request (copy to the CRNA Manager).
- Maintains professional behavior and appearance.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding all information related to patients, personnel, and medical staff.
- Maintains a responsible attitude toward appropriate and efficient management of the hospital. a. Continually strives to contain costs b. Responds in a courteous manner to the needs of other departments during periods of conflict and in the process of resolving mutual problems.
- Adheres to all Personnel Policies and Procedures.

- Clinical performance in anesthesia is supervised and evaluated by the Anesthesia Manager.

Salary Range:
$226,000 for 26 weeks of coverage each contract year
