Why is outdoor exercise important during the warmer months?
Fabiola Puga, MD
Family Medicine Doctor
Exercise helps your body perform at its best. Aerobic exercise, like brisk walking, can strengthen your heart and lungs, which improves your fitness and may make it easier to be active in your daily life. For safety's sake, plan your activities for the cooler morning or evening hours instead of the middle of the day. Drink plenty of water and fluids too."
Jason Whitney, ARNP, FNP
Family Medicine Provider
Exercise—or any kind of movement, really—helps you feel great and more energized. Try to get at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise per week, along with muscle-strengthening activities on two or more days. In other words, exercise is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle."
John Hines, DO
Family Medicine Doctor
Exercise can help lower your risk for many conditions and chronic illnesses, including high blood pressure, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, depression and certain types of cancer. It can also help you achieve a healthy weight. The ways we benefit from exercise are seemingly endless."
Edwin Meelhuysen, PT, COMT
Physical Therapist
It's important to move all year round, but warmer months open the door to many more activities, like yard work, hiking, playing with your kids outside in the fresh air and gardening.
Gardening can be excellent exercise because it can combine strength and aerobic-type activities out in the sunshine and fresh air. Choose movement."
