Hospital Board appoints officers, chief medical officer

MORTON, Wash.–Lewis County Hospital District No. 1, doing business as Arbor Health, operates Morton Hospital, the Specialty Clinic, Rapid Care Clinic and four primary care clinics throughout East Lewis County. As a public entity, the hospital district is governed by a board of elected commissioners. Each year, the board selects its board chair and secretary as well as assign commissioner to serve on various oversight committees.

With the retirement of former board chair Tom Herrin, the board elected commissioner Wes McMahan to serve as chair and commissioner Chris Schumaker as board secretary. John Hannah of Morton, recently elected to fill Herrin’s vacant position, joined the commission in January.

The 2026 officers and committee representatives are:

  • Board chair— Wes McMahan
  • Board secretary— Chris Schumaker
  • Finance Committee— Chris Schumaker, John Hannah
  • Quality Improvement—Van Anderson, Craig Coppock
  • Governance—Wes McMahan, Chris Schumaker
  • Plant Planning—Craig Coppock, Wes McMahan
  • Strategic Planning—all five commissioners
  • Compliance Committee, Van Anderson, Chris Schumaker
  • Arbor Health Foundation, John Hannah
  • State Legislature Representative, Wes McMahan

Medical Staff Officers

Hospital District Superintendent Eric “Max” Neal, recently appointed Mark Hansen, MD, to the position of Chief Medical Officer on the retirement of Kevin McCurry, M.D. Both Hansen and McCurry have long served as physicians within the hospital district.

In addition, the Arbor Health medical staff elects a chairperson and secretary each year. For 2026, the medical staff chair is Fabiola Puga, MD, and secretary is John Hines, D.O.
