Friday, May 20, 2022

MORTON, Wash. –Arbor Health is partnering with the Mossyrock Area Action League’s (MAAL) to organize a benefit run during the community’s Freedom Festival. The event will span the 4th of July holiday weekend with the run set for Sunday, July 3 at 9 a.m. (The route is still being determined.)

The proceeds of the Mossyrock Independence Day 5K & 8K will:

  • Support the Mossyrock Schools athletic programs (including offsetting the cost of the concussion management baseline testing).
  • Fund scholarships for low-income seniors to participate in Arbor Health’s senior exercise program.

The cost, which has been kept affordable to encourage participation, is $30 for adults and $25 for ages 9-17, which includes T-shirts. Children 8 and under are free with T-shirts being available for purchase. Participants are encouraged to register prior to June 16th to be ensured the availability of shirts at MyArborHealth.org/MossyRun.

“We became aware of the need for an event organizer when looking for wellness-event opportunities for our employees,” CEO Leianne Everett said in a prepared statement. “Our Community Wellness Director, Edwin Meelhuysen, was happy to take this on. With his enjoyment of participating in these types of events, this is a good fit for him and it’s a great fit for Arbor Health to partner with MAAL. Part of our mission is to nurture a healthy community, so this is ideal.”

Arbor Health will sponsor its own Joy in the Journey 5K Color Run on August 27 as part of the organization’s Wellness Week.
