Pharmacist (PIC) - (full-time)
Responsible for the provision of prospective and concurrent evaluation of pharmacotherapy with an emphasis on the patient and with the endpoint focused on outcomes such as treatment efficiency, morbidity, mortality and drug cost. Acts as a liaison to medical, nursing, pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals. Participates in ongoing clinical monitoring activities and provides administrative and clinical support for regulatory compliance issues, drug use evaluations, and operations support activities. Provides immediate supervision and control of the work activities of Pharmacy Technician.
- Current registration and license from WA State Board of Pharmacy.
- Two (2) Years clinical pharmacy experience. Experience in a hospital setting is preferred.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
- Prior experience in a leadership position preferred.
Primary job responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain policies to ensure the safe and effective use of drugs in the hospital.
- Monitor and evaluate the pharmaceutical services, use and control of drugs in the hospital, and shall participate in relevant planning, policy and decision making activities, regarding pharmaceutical services provided at the hospital.
- Responsible for compliance with WAC 246-873.
- Responsible for control and distribution of narcotics and restricted drugs on the hospital premises, and shall check inventories at least monthly for outdated medications.
- Daily inspections of the drug stock maintained by the hospital and maintain an adequate supply.
- Maintaining and keeping available the medical staff approved stock of antidotes and other emergency drugs, both in the pharmacy and in patient care areas. Authoritative, current antidotes information, as well as the telephone number of the regional poison control information center, should also be readily available in areas outside the pharmacy where these drugs are stored.
- Filing and labeling all drug containers issued to the department/services from which medications are to be administered.
- Maintain records of all transactions of the pharmacy as required by federal, state, and local laws, and as necessary to maintain adequate control and accountability of all drugs. This should include a system of controls and records for the requisitioning and dispensing of pharmaceutical supplies to nursing care units and to other departments/services of the hospital.
- Participate in the development and subsequent updating of a hospital formulary drug list.
- Assure the monitoring and evaluation, with medical staff input, of the quality and appropriateness of patient services provided by the pharmaceutical department/service.
- Provide communication of new product information to nursing services and other hospital personnel, as required.
- Perform an annual review of all pharmaceutical policies and procedures for the purpose of establishing their consistency with current practices within the hospital.
- Package inpatient medications, refill emergency medications, deliver new drugs ordered and depleted.
- Maintain and post a calendar in the hospital pharmacy that shows the hours the pharmacist will be physically available on the premises.
- Monitor the distribution of controlled drugs by the hospital staff.
- Other duties as appropriate.
